Comprehensive New Urbanist master plan for Alexandria, Louisiana repositioned existing assets to create a rejuvenated town center and intersperse new amenities with the goal of reviving the energetic urbanism that grew the city’s remarkable collection of historic architecture in the 19th century. At the plan’s core is the reorientation of two hotels – the historic Hotel Bentley and the newer Hotel Fulton — and the City’s Convention Center to face a Town Square. The plan, which rerouted roads to deemphasize automobile traffic and emphasize pedestrian access to the urban core, created walkable circulation routes, the design of a civic water feature to honor the city’s Red River, and a ring of diverse and lively cafes surrounding the square.

Project resulted in a successful and inspiring Master Plan, the implementation of which the City of Alexandria led to redevelopment of two component hotels.
