Kelly has always loved art and design, but it was movies that got her thinking about architecture in particular. Seeing wonderful, carefully designed spaces on screen that provoke a mood – from light and airy to dark and brooding – inspire her to create places that evoke an emotional response. The juxtaposition of architectural elements and human experiences inspires her to constantly refine her craft. When traveling recently in Mexico, for instance, she discovered an open-air market with hundreds of colorful tarps that covered the space. Gusts of wind gave the illusion that the tarps were moving as one large, multi-colored sail. It is simple, poignant experiences such as this that Kelly believes have the power to create vivid memories and inspire her timeless approach to design.
Kelly received her Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech.
