Open floor plans or custom kitchens matter no if they aren’t built for the people who occupy them. It was crucial, then, that a local couple who love playing host designed a home around their family and friends. They wanted to create the atmosphere of a rustic Northwest lodge, replete with areas that could inspire and entertain their young children, their kids’ friends, their own friends, and extended family. A reading nook at the top of the stairs between the kids’ rooms creates a communal area, while the kitchen opens to the playroom, allowing parents to interact with their children while prepping dinner. Reclaimed wooden beams from an old carriage house support the high ceilings of the ski lodge-like family room. A covered porch with a hooded grill, a full bar in the basement and an infinity pool in the backyard give the family space to accommodate guests in all seasons.
