The latest renovation of the Carolina Inn came 15 years after a 3north principal led the first one in 1995. The current design maintains Carolina traditions while presenting a refreshed palette to a new generation. Public spaces and conference facilities are enlivened with bold color and custom UNC-related artwork. All-new guest rooms feature bright, signature baths, and the inn’s beloved restaurant was rebranded and updated. The project met UNC-Chapel Hill’s high benchmarks for sustainability, use of local materials and organic products, and incorporation of wellness initiatives.
UNC-Chapel Hill’s principal campus conference facility provides meeting space for groups of up to 700 in an elegant series of flexible ballrooms, traditional boardrooms, meeting rooms, and break-out areas. Situated within the historic inn, the conference facilities were renovated in 2012 to update interior design, improve functionality and flexibility, and to provide all venues with state-of-the-art technology.
A set of logos and marks developed for this venerated campus inn coordinate with the University’s logo. Carolina’s “C” set within a key motif (symbol of an inn keeper) is also used as a stand-alone monogram on elements throughout the inn. Site-specific artwork showcases the history of the inn, university and alumnae, and the state.
