In November 2019, 3North received the AIA Virginia T. David Fitz-Gibbon Firm Award, recognizing a firm that has “consistently produced distinguished architecture for at least 10 years.” It’s the highest honor bestowed by the organization and cause for reflection on our past 20 years.
Since 1999, we’ve been experimenting and evolving, intentionally staying broad across project type, design disciplines and stylistic output. Though perhaps counterintuitive to the “narrow your focus” approach any business consultant would advise, we believe this diversity of thought leads to the best work for our clients, the best environment for our people, and the best contribution to architecture and design. Perhaps being known as an accomplished group of problem-solving generalists is our greatest achievement.
With that, I’d like to take a moment to thank those who have contributed to 3North over the years. Thanks to our clients who bring an incredible amount of vision and conviction to our projects each and every day. Thanks to our construction partners and to all those who have worked with or for 3North along the way; it’s been a privilege to share some part of your journey. Finally, thanks to our talented staff who bring their best each and every day; I’m lucky to have you.
This award is a wonderful marker for our first 20 years. Today, I can genuinely say we have more talent, more energy, more alignment, and more leadership than ever before. I can’t wait to see what the next 20 years bring.

“I can say without reservation that 3North’s body of work rivals that of any of the top national design firms whose work I’ve observed at first hand. I cannot give them higher praise than to say that, as a knowledgeable client, I would place 3North in the top tier of any short list”
