Building a house is often a thrilling endeavor, and when the home in question occupies a dynamic site surrounded on three sides by water this adds a considerable degree of pressure to supersede expectations. This striking home was conceived to be a powerful draw for friends and family across the seasons and a place to share celebrations and, when desired, escape from the pressures of everyday life. The design process carefully factored in the myriad of views available from every vantage point on the site, and took advantage of the solar orientation throughout the year to best highlight the various indoor and outdoor functions. The Kitchen and Breakfast Room are positioned to capture the morning sun while the Living Room and Covered Porch are oriented to offer spectacular sunset views across the water. To facilitate seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors numerous access points have been arranged at critical locations throughout the home’s ground level to offer easy access to the porches, terraces, lawn, and water. Once outside, a landscape of native plants replicates a natural waterfront environment and minimizes maintenance while supporting indigenous animal habits for mammals, raptors, and amphibians.
