This new custom residence by 3North began with a conceptual master plan and evolved into a home that is equal parts sanctuary and gallery. Designed in close collaboration with our clients, the house reflects their vision for an urban retreat that embraces natural light, presents curated views, and offers seamless indoor–outdoor living while providing ample space to showcase their extensive modern art collection.
Situated at the intersection of two established neighborhoods—one a traditional grid and the other a rolling landscape of diverse architectural styles—the home strikes a deliberate balance between openness and privacy. Expansive windows and carefully framed views blur the line between indoors and out, while crisp, low-maintenance, and sustainable materials lend the home both durability and warmth. Rendered in wood, metal, and stone, each surface was chosen for its ability to complement and contrast—light with dark, smooth with coarse, rustic with refined—creating a rich yet calming atmosphere.
The home’s program was shaped around our clients’ lifestyle: a bright, open living space anchored by a kitchen with bar seating with direct connection to dining and gathering areas; dual primary bedrooms and bathrooms for privacy and comfort; and a generous amount of wall space throughout to display art. A covered patio extends the living space outdoors with a pool, hot tub, and grill, reinforcing the home’s connection to landscape and leisure.
Beyond its striking modern aesthetic, the residence is a study in precision craft. Unlike traditional homes that conceal joints with trim and molding, the deliberate modern detailing here requires impeccable craftsmanship—every edge, intersection, and connection resolved with exacting care so that nothing appears accidental. The result is a contemporary home of understated richness, one that celebrates simple forms, honest materials, and thoughtful composition.
More than a residence, this home is a place of retreat, reflection, and celebration—an urban sanctuary designed to host both lively gatherings and quiet moments of repose.
